About Me
I am a multi-skilled design professional with 5 years’ industrial experience in the design and development of websites, multimedia artefacts and software applications.
I am academically trained to postgraduate level with a skillset that has both breadth and depth and includes advanced understanding of human-computer interaction and usability issues.
Ethos
I am driven by a desire to deliver excellence in everything I do. I am self-motivated, focussed, versatile and extremely thorough. I am pragmatic and practical, but ultimately I strive to achieve high standards, quality and finesse. Above all, I care about users and believe strongly in user-centred design.
I am straight-talking (but never rude, bullish or opinionated) and I appreciate the same in others. I pride myself on considering all options and opinions before acting or making judgements, not only because I believe this the right and proper way to act, but also because I believe that this always yields the best results when considering a problem or question.
Experience
Since June 2003 I have worked for RE:MEDIA Ltd, first as a Web/Multimedia Developer, then as a Project Manager. The initial role involved use of my various practical skills, in designing and developing systems for high-profile clients across various corporate sectors. Later in this role I took on Team Lead responsibilities including project reporting and team selection. My role as Project Manager has called upon me to develop my skills in project planning, scheduling, and management of issue and risk.
Throughout my employement I have used and developed transferrable skills. I have very strong written communication skills and have authored many types of technical and non-technical documents. I am also a good verbal communicator, able to discuss matters using the language, vocabulary and tone suitable to the situation, be that with designers, developers, clients or other project stakeholders.
Education
I achieved a Master's Degree (M.A.) with Distinction in Interactive Mutlmedia (formerly Interactive Systems Design) at Staffordshire University in June 2007, having studied part-time alongside my full-time professional career.
Prior to this, I achieved a First Class B.A. (Hons.) in the same subject, which I completed in 2003.
A 'hybrid' course, operated jointly between the School of Computing and the School of Art and Design, the course covered areas such as Human-Computer Interaction, User Interface Design, Accessibility, Usability, and Object-Oriented Systems Design, as well as teaching practical skills in industry-standard applications and languages such as Flash, Director, 3DS MAX, Photoshop, HTML, JavaScript, ASP and Visual Basic.
