In November 2004, Byrom, the company providing corporate ticketing to FIFA, commissioned an online visualisation and seating management tool for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. I was put in charge of the multi-skilled team tasked with delivering this incredibly adventurous project.
The brief was to provide a solution that would allow the corporate sponsors of the event, to view and manage their allocations of seats at the tournament's 12 venues and 64 matches.
The result was an Adobe Shockwave-based application combining 3D stadium visualisation with an integrated Flash-based management application for the management of seat and attendee data. The back end of the system was developed in ASP.NET with C# and integrated with the client's existing SQL Server database.
The project ran for 14 months and was wonderfully exciting, inspirational and at times gruelling! I worked across the whole project from research to design to development. As the team lead, I also liaised with the client on a regular basis and worked closely with the client's internal development team in Barcelona.
The project was completed in March, 2006.
